November/Birthday Wishlist

Monday, November 2, 2015

Below find my November/Birthday wishlist items! I've been loving my Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black sample perfume, and highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fall/winter scent. You can never go wrong with a chunky monogram necklace, especially in this marble pattern! I've had my eye on the black Rebecca Minkoff purse for a few months now, the black on black details have me hooked. I will be in need of some quality winter boots, and these Tory Burch boots below scream warm and cozy! You can't go wrong with a cute festive phone case too :) Lastly, I've heard AMAZING things about the Kat Von D shade & light contour palette! I currently own the Anastasia contour palette, but would love to try out another palette! That's all for now, hope you all had an amazing Halloween and are looking forward to the holidays! xo

Hair Care

Monday, October 12, 2015

My favorite hair products include Bb Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Shampoo, Macadamia hair mask, Schwarzkopf heat protectant spray, Batiste dry shampoo, and Schwarzkopf volume hairspray. The Bumble and bumble shampoo keeps my hair shiny and protects it from any heat damage. Most heat damage comes from my favorite hot tool shown below, the wand. You can get one at Marshall's, CVS, or your local beauty shop. Since I only wash my hair about twice a week I like to use a hair mask on the ends to prevent breakage. The Macadamia hair mask is great for that! Heat protectant spray is also an important step for hair prep, and this one by Schwarzkopf is so affordable! Batiste dry shampoo is my everyday staple. Like I said before, I don't wash my hair often and this product saves my life! Whenever my hair gets oily I just spray this product and rub it in throughout my roots. Lastly, the Schwarzkopf volume hairspray gives me texture while holding in my curls all day.

Natural Body Moisturizer

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Going into the new season can be tough on your skin, that's why I've been on the hunt for a good body moisturizer! As I've stated before, I tend to have oily skin on my face, but my body tends to get more dry as the temperature changes. I've tried several different moisturizers over the years, but haven't found one that has ever wowed me. I also swam all my life and it was always a constant battle between beautiful glowy skin and the chlorine.... usually the chlorine won. Recently I found this amazing all natural body lotion by Ology, and I'm hooked! When people think of all natural products they usually think they smell "earthy" or just different. This lotion is a milk & honey lotion, and has the most subtle scent that simply smells yummy. The other benefit to this lotion is that it dry fairly quick and absorbs easily! I can't stand feeling of lotion sticking to my clothes after I put them on. Lastly, the moisturizer has no harmful chemicals and claims to have 24 hr moisture for normal to dry skin. So far I agree with the brand and would definitely recommend this lotion and brand to others in the market for a new body lotion.

Summer to Fall Nail Polishes

Friday, September 18, 2015

I, like many people, love fall! I look forward to crisp cool mornings and golden leaves falling! Ahh I can already smell an apple pie fresh out of the oven and a warm pumpkin spice latte!! When September comes I am ready to transition my wardrobe, nail colors and makeup to all the latest fall trends, but for some reason the season doesn't "officially" come until our Indian summer has passed. Even though I want to wear my burgundy nails and dark vampy lips, it doesn't seem appropriate until the climate has changed. Therefore, I have come up with my favorite Summer to Fall transition nail polish colors! The colors are a combination of letting go of the fresh white summer nails and introducing some light mauves and beige tones. I'll leave the brand and exact name of the polishes below! You can pretty much find any brand at your local drugstore or specialty beauty store!

Happy Fall!

Oil free makeup tips

Thursday, September 10, 2015

All my life I've had an issue with oily skin. I don't know if it's due to my Italian roots or change of temperature, but I do know it's a problem. As you can guess, it also gets worse in the summer due to the warm temps, so this summer I experimented a lot with oil free makeup products and I gathered a few of my favorites. I know fall/winter are coming up and people's skin tend to get more dry, but lately we've been having a really hot transition and I think my tricks will benefit girls like me!

I don't have it pictured, but before applying any primer or makeup, it's always important to moisturize your skin even if it's oily. It seems weird, but if you skip this you can trick your skin into thinking that it needs more moisture and in return it will begin to produce more oil, making you even more oily. My favorite moisturizer at the moment is the Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer. I also have very sensitive skin, and this brand works great for me!

The next important "pre-makeup" product is primer! I never used primer in high school/college. I never knew its purpose and thought it was a waste of money. Looking back, I wish I did more research. Primer is the most important part to creating a flawless makeup look. It's like the shampoo before the conditioner, haha. IT'S THAT IMPORTANT. One primer that I've fallen back in love with is the NYX Angel Veil skin perfecting primer (oil free.) It makes your skin so smooth and prepares your face for whatever foundation you choose.

One of the two foundations pictured, is the L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation. This foundation is very affordable and can be found at almost any drugstore. It also comes in a wide range of shades so you can even buy two and mix to create a custom color. This foundation is advertised as a demi-matte finish, which is also oil-free. It also is long lasting, and claims to last up to 24 hours. I would never recommend wearing makeup that long, but if you happen to have one of "those nights" then you can feel confident that your face will look pretty good in the AM ;) One of the reasons why I love this foundation, besides how affordable it is, is because you can build it up easily. If you don't want a lot of coverage then you can mix it in with your primer and be good to go. But for those days you want more, it's very easy to make that happen. It does last all day, I even work out in it and it doesn't budge.

My second foundation recommendation is the new, highly raved about, Too Faced Born This Way foundation. This foundation is also oil-free and claims to be medium-to-full coverage. The beauty about this foundation is that it literally looks like your skin, but better. It makes your skin look flawless without looking like you're wearing a lot of makeup. It's definitely full coverage, but in the best way! This foundation is worth the money, and comes in a variety of shades. I highly recommend applying both of the foundations mentioned with a Beauty Blender. You can either order one online or go to your nearest Sephora. I'm obsessed with my Beauty Blender and how effortlessly it helps apply my foundation or concealer.

Lastly, I've recently been into "setting" my makeup once I'm finished with a matte setting spray. A very affordable one is the NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting setting spray. This is like the icing on top! It melts all the makeup together as one (after blending) and it also adds to the "oil-free" effect I've been going for. This setting spray is inexpensive and locks in my makeup all day!

I hope these oil-free makeup tips help for anyone out there with similar problems! Please comment below if you have any questions!!

Budget Friendly Weekend

Monday, August 31, 2015

Lately, my significant other and I have been trying to save money when it comes to doing activities together. We recently took a fabulous week long vacation visiting Martha's Vineyard, that was worth every penny, but burnt a minor hole in our pockets. With wedding season coming on strong these next couple of months, we really don't have much wiggle room. Yes, budgeting is never a fun topic, but I believe discussing important financial topics between couples can bring two people closer together. It's never a fun topic, unless you just won the lottery or received an impressive raise, but those days don't happen often. I've noticed that a lot of social media of millennials is all about where you are and what you're doing, not focusing enough on who you are with and being in the present. I also find myself struggling with that from time to time. Social media is a different era, but it all traces back to our morals/values and what is important to us.

To tie into the title of this piece, our weekend was spent mostly with family and a few cheap, fun activities. I've always been into farmer's markets, and luckily we found one with a short enjoyable car ride. Farmer's markets are a great alternative to the weekly grocery haul at your local store, and if you shop around they can be pretty affordable, as well! I personally enjoy walking around to different booths, even if they have similar products for sale.

On Sunday, we did "antiquing." I've been on the hunt for a new dresser, but not wanting to spend a ton of money. There were some local mills that had converted into antique shops, open to the public. If you love shabby chic, then this activity would be perfect for you! Even if you don't plan on purchasing anything, you can grab so many ideas by just walking through the shops and seeing all the styles of furniture. I didn't end up buying anything, but it was fun to see something different than your average Ikea and Target.

At the end of the weekend, most of our expenses were spent on small meals, gas, and the driving range (my boyfriend has an obsession.) Needless to say, it's been an adjustment trying to save/budget our finances more responsibly. It's not easy, but I'm hoping that with encouragement and accountability we can accomplish our goals!
